France can count on the second highest number of skier days in the world, at 55.2m after the United States with 60.0m.

There was optimism last year that the number one spot might be possible, but when the country fell short again it was put down to the ‘faible enneigement’ of last season.

There’s no problem with snow this year – we know that.  So with all the talk in the newspapers of ‘la crise’, how do you persuade those extra skiers to get on the mountain?

Here’s three examples, all take from last week’s Dauphiné Libere:

Le Grand Bornand is targeting Tuesdays – ‘Le Schuss de Mardi’ at EUR25

'Le Schuss du Mardi' in Le Grand Bornand

Megeve’s offer is an eye-catching EUR20, with a discount on a private lesson included

'C'est 20 garanti!'

But if we were making the choice, we’d pick La Clusaz on a Friday at EUR26.  A great ski area and what a way to start the weekend…

The normal day pass rates for these resorts are EUR30 (Le Grand Bornand), EUR39.5 (Megeve) and EUR32 (La Clusaz).
