Brands are always searching for effective competitions to increase their fans base and engagement on Facebook.

Australian resort Perisher has recently managed to achieve both with their ‘Be the ultimate Skibum‘ competition.

Be the Ultimate Ski Bum

The competition offered entrants the chance to win a ‘ski bum’ experience valued at over AUD20,000.  The prize included six weeks’ accommodation, lift ticket, Playstation, a new pair of skis or a board and loads more.

To enter, fans had to upload a short video.  The judges then picked the finalists, and fans were able to vote for the ‘skibum’ they thought should win.  The winner will be announced on 08 June.

Great engagement
During the period of the competition so far, Perisher have added over 5000 fans so far, but what really stands out is the engagement.  Their ‘People Talking About This’ figure peaked at 16,636 – which is an amazing engagement ratio of over 50%.   Bear in mind that most brands would consider 3% to be a good level of engagement!

You can see from the image below that the People Talking About This figure went up during the competition, but it was once voting started that engagement skyrocketed as fans viewed and voted on videos.  Once voting stopped, PTAT started to decline again.

Overall, a great example of how to run a competition on Facebook.
