Following on from my previous look at the Top 10 French Ski Resorts on Facebook, this week I’ve been looking at Austrian resorts. Being mindful that that social media marketing is much more about quality than quantity, here’s the top ten:

SaalbachThe Top 10 Austrian Ski Resorts on Facebook

1. Saalbach Hinterglemm (22184 fans)
2. Ischgl (17670)
3. Zell am See/Kaprun (14577)
4. Zillertal/Mayrhofen (11533)
5. Kitzbuhel (11048)
6. Wildschönau (7987)
7. Lech Zürs (6943)
8. St Anton (6916)
9. Schladming/Dachstein (6683)
10. Pitztal (5340)

Unlike France many of the Austrian pages are for ‘areas’, incorporating several resorts. There are also some unofficial sites. Kitzbuhel has another page with 4412 fans, the Hintertux lift company has 4298 fans, while the Kitzsteinerhorn Snowpark has 3545 fans.

Categories
As in France, the Austrian resorts aren’t too sure how to categorise themselves, with six different labels in the top ten, including ‘Travel/Leisure’, ‘Company’, ‘Local business’ and ‘Product/Services’. It’s worth noting that the new tagging feature on Facebook currently only allows some of these categories to be tagged, although this is due to be rolled out to all categories.

Austria more switched on to social than France?
The total number of fans for the Austrian top ten is 20% higher than the total for the top French resorts. This doesn’t prove that Austria is more switched onto social than France, but is a strong indicator. I was also impressed during my research by how many of the Austrian resorts also run and promote their own YouTube channels.

Know better?
Although I spent plenty of time researching this, I’m not claiming it’s definitive. If you know better, please do comment below or contact me to let me know.
