According to the latest edition of Montagne Leaders magazine, the Saulire cable car will not open again until summer 2023.

Damaged in pre-season testing

Readers may be aware that during a standard pre-season check on the 120-capacity cable car in September 2021, both cabins were damaged as they crashed into the lift stations.

The lift has been closed for the whole of the 2021/22 winter season.

Repairs will cost €9 million

Last week, at the inauguration of the new Eclipse downhill run for the 2023 Alpine World Championships Pascal de Thiersant, president of the Society of Three Vallées (S3V) confirmed that the total repair cost will be in the region of €9 million.

Both cabins will have to be rebuilt and the top and bottom stations slightly remodelled.

“Our commitment is to reopen Saulire in time for summer of 2023 so that it is prepared for optimal use by winter 2023-2024.”
