Tour operators, destinations, properties and members of the media gathered in London last week for ‘LISTEX Luxury’ – a focus on the top end of the market.
After networking sessions in the morning, James Gambrill from the Ski Club of Great Britain opened the afternoon forum session with a look at the data behind the luxury market.
The Ski Club data looked only at holidays costing £3000 per person or more. This compares with £1250 per person for the market as a whole.
Note that annual comparisons shown below are with pre-Covid years.
- The key points presented included:
- The overall market size has fallen 12.5% from 2m skiers per year to 1.75m
- Conversely, the luxury market has increased from 8% of all holidays to 12%
- The luxury ski market represents 24% of all ski holiday revenues
- 10% of ‘luxury’ skiers took four or more trips last winter
- Half of luxury holidays were taken in France, with 36% in Switzerland (compared to 13% for the overall market)
After the forum sesssions, attendees boarded a boat for a networking cruise along the River Thames to cap off a productive and informative day.
