Two snow cannons in the French ski resort of Les Gets have been vandalised, causing thousands of euros worth of damage.
Several power cables were cut and graffiti added saying ‘Pas de ski sans neige’.

‘No skiing without snow’
This translates as ‘No skiing without snow’, which as a message is hard to argue with, even if it’s not quite clear what the culprits mean by it.
Also marked in red paint was the Extinction Rebellion logo. The (local) Annecy brand of the movement has denied any involvement.
€3000 of damage
Benjamin Mugnier, the Sales and Marketing director for the resort confirmed that the incident has been reported to the gendarmerie in Taninges. The cost of the damage is estimated at €3000.
“It saddens us to see an action like this,” said Mugnier. “Especially as we are committed to eco actions, such as the wooden pass and a tobacco-free ski area we have recently introduced.”

Whilst I don’t condone vandalism of any sort – the claims by M. Mugnier that Les Gets is clearly committed to eco actions through the introduction of the wooden pass and banning of smoking on the pistes is rather over shadowed by the environmental impact of 1000s of tonnes of concrete that are being used in the current massive development schemes authorised by the Mairie.
