In this recent video, Iain and Al from The Ski Podcast explain how to carry skis…without taking anyone eyes out and while looking ‘cool’.
There’s many wrong ways to carry your skis, but there’s only one right way to carry your skis: that’s to have them over your shoulder with the tips facing forward.
The Best Way to Carry Skis: Over your shoulder with the tips facing forward
- First of all, the bindings go behind your shoulder, so the tips of the skis are in front of you and the bindings sit behind your shoulder
- The reason for this is that it’s a counterweight. Your arm rests on the front of the ski
- The brakes interlock on the side of the ski, and one brake sits in front of the other brake. That stops the top ski sliding forward
- If you do it the wrong way, the ski can just slide out the way, so the furthest most brake goes on the top skis over your shoulder, leaving the toe piece of the binding by your shoulder
- Your arm just rests on the front of the ski. It’s really comfortable and really balanced.
A tip for your poles
Often poles have a little notch in the basket so the poles can clip together, so when you’re carrying them or walking with your poles in one hand they are still fastened together.
