Following up on our recent blog post ‘Will ChatGPT make ski experts redundant?‘, we thought we’d extend the theme by asking a friendly AI to create some images for us.

There were some worryingly scary results…

The terrifying pain of snow…

A smiling 6 year-old boy throwing snow into the air with joy, dressed in a colourful one-piece ski suit, on a day with blue skies and sunshine, surrounded by mountains covered in snow, in the ski resort of val d’isere in france, in a photo-realistic style.

Result: A relatively successful image, apart from the face of existential despair

The no-neck snowboarder

A snowboarder doing a front-side grab while going off a kicker in a big air competition in the snow park in Laax switzerland, with blue skies and mountains with snow in the background in a photorealistic style.

Result: A physiologically impossible position caused by the removal of the top of the spine

Melted faces, melted cheese

A group of 12 guests sitting down for dinner in an alpine ski chalet, sharing a cheese fondue, smiling and laughing, in a photorealistic style. It’s night outside, but you can see mountains through the windows.

Result: From a distance not too bad, but their faces have melted along with the cheese

Don’t look too closely

Two children, aged 9 and 10 years old, doing a snowplough on skis, being taught by a ski instructor, in the ski resort of Meribel in France, on a sunny day with blue skies, with mountains with snow on in the background. The children are smiling and having fun.

Result: Skis? Snowboards? A jumper over the shoulder? WTF?

Okay, I admit this was a trick question…

Two children, aged 9 and 10 years old, being taught ‘pizza and chips’ by a ski instructor, in the ski resort of Meribel in France, on a sunny day with blue skies, with mountains with snow on in the background. The children are smiling and having fun.

Result: It’s easy to confuse an AI – just use a ski-specific idiom like ‘pizza and chips’. Although that doesn’t explain the ‘smiles’.
