AI has come a long way in the last two years. Back in May 2023, I took a light-hearted look at AI’s ability to create images.
But how much has AI improved since then?
The answer is shockingly far. Let’s have a look at the vastly different results that the same prompts generated…
The terrifying pain of snow v. A cute kid
A smiling 6-year-old boy throwing snow into the air with joy, dressed in a colourful one-piece ski suit, on a day with blue skies and sunshine, surrounded by mountains covered in snow, in the ski resort of val d’isere in france, in a photo-realistic style.

The no-neck snowboarder v. Pro boarder in action
A snowboarder doing a front-side grab while going off a kicker in a big air competition in the snow park in Laax, Switzerland, with blue skies and mountains with snow in the background in a photorealistic style.

Melted faces, melted cheese v. Slight squeeze, but everyone’s having fun
A group of 12 guests sitting down for dinner in an alpine ski chalet, sharing a cheese fondue, smiling and laughing, in a photorealistic style. It’s night outside, but you can see mountains through the windows.

A trick question that completely fooled AI v. Having great fun in a ski lesson (but get off my ski)
Two children, aged 9 and 10 years old, being taught ‘pizza and chips’ by a ski instructor, in the ski resort of Meribel in France, on a sunny day with blue skies, with mountains with snow on in the background. The children are smiling and having fun.

Conclusion
Beware our AI overlords. It won’t be long now before we’re all out of a job (unless you’re a ski instructor!)

Anyone who uses a search engine will know that the answers are hit and miss with a bias towards those Companies and products that have manipulated themselves to the head of the queue.
The plague of marketing answers obscures the answer that you are looking for.
Why should AI produce a better answer in an internet driven by commercial interests ?

It’s hard to define what you mean by ‘manipulated themselves to the head of the queue’ – after all, the job I have been doing for the last 25 years has involved trying to get companies to the head of that queue! The difference is now that it’s ‘GEO’ and not ‘SEO’…
