A new winter sports programme called ‘Sunday in the Mountains’, developed by former Ski Sunday presenter Chemmy Alcott, in association with media company Wavelength, looks like it will go live this winter.

The new programme would be a replacement for long-running ‘Ski Sunday’, recently axed by the BBC after almost 50 years on television.

The project aims to build a new multi-platform winter sports media brand following the BBC’s decision to discontinue Ski Sunday.

Six 45-minute episodes

The new venture is targeting a launch in January 2027, with six planned 45-minute episodes following the Alpine Ski World Cup circuit across European resorts.

Chemmy Alcott will act as presenter, co-producer and creative director, with the project backed by Extreme Sports Channel founder Alistair Gosling.

According to the project’s launch materials, each episode will include a mix of racing coverage, destination guides, athlete interviews, celebrity guests and documentary-style films exploring mountain communities and innovation.

In an interview in Episode 326 of The Ski Podcast, Alcott had made it clear she wanted to bring snowsports coverage back to free-to-view television.
