The 17th edition of the International Report on Snow & Mountain Tourism by Swiss industry expert Laurent Vanat revealed some interesting data.
Highlights that stood out were:
- The report is on the figures from the 2023/24 winter season and shows a healthy 366 million global ski visits – making it an ‘average’ season. Just 12% of all resorts are responsible for 73% of the visits

- The USA recorded the most visits worldwide

- China recorded a new record season

- Italy and Switzerland had conflicting seasons

- France and Austria have yet to recover to pre-Covid levels

- There’s been a significant increase in outbound skiers from the USA

- Digitalisation of ski resorts sales is progressing slowly

According to Vanat there are 68 countries that offer outdoor snow ski areas and around 6,000 resorts exist globally.
