This weekend the 2014 Tour de France hit the Alps.

Although some of the famous Alpine climbs, such as Alpe d’Huez, the Galibier and the Col de Madelaine didn’t feature this year, the less well known ski resorts of Risoul and Chamrousse both hosted stage finishes.

A win for France Montagnes

France Montagnes – responsible for tourism promotion to the ‘French mountains’ – cleverly created a huge display in a field that included their logo.

It was featured by one of the helicopters that flies above the peloton, filming the action

The Tour and Tourism go hand in hand and it’s widely recognised that the official coverage by the Tour will always highlight the features of any area.

It was estimated that when Yorkshire hosted Le Grand Depart at the start of this  year’s tour, the economic benefit to the region was around £100 million.
